STEP 3 ISN’T ABOUT HAVING PERFECT FAITH.

After Step 2 introduces hope, Step 3 moves that hope into action. Believing that change is possible is one thing. Deciding to trust God with your life is another.

Many people reach this step and feel conflicted. Part of you wants freedom. Another part still believes you should be able to manage things on your own.

Step 3 speaks directly to that struggle.

“We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.”

This step shifts recovery from simply believing help is possible to actually placing your life in God’s hands.

FROM SELF-RELIANCE TO DAILY SURRENDER

This step can feel intimidating at first. Let’s face it—most of us have spent years trying to stay in control.

Even after admitting we can’t fix ourselves, we still hold on tightly to the idea that we should be running our own lives.

You may wonder:

What if I don’t trust God enough yet?

What if I’m afraid to give up control?

What if God helps other people — but not me?

Step 3 is not a one-time switch that instantly solves everything. It is the beginning of a daily process of surrender — choosing again and again to place your life in God’s care.

The Christian Value of Step 3: Faith

In The Dunamis Effect, each step is paired with a Christian value. Step 3 is rooted in Faith.

Hope looks forward to what might be possible. Faith grows when we begin to see God actively working in our lives.

As we notice answered prayers, moments of grace, and small signs of progress, our confidence in God deepens. Faith develops not just from what we believe, but from what we begin to experience.

Over time, we learn that God’s care is not distant or theoretical — it is personal and present.

WHAT SURRENDER LOOKS LIKE

Turning your life over to God does not mean life suddenly becomes easy or problem-free. It means releasing the exhausting effort of trying to control everything yourself.

Step 3 invites you to begin each day with humility before God — acknowledging your need for His guidance and asking Him to reveal the path forward.

Often the change begins quietly: a willingness to pray, gratitude for small blessings, and the courage to say “yes” when God opens unexpected opportunities.

Little by little, surrender replaces fear.

Faith becomes the bridge between hope and a transformed life.
